We are excited to announce that Dunia, our advanced data processing and dissemination platform, is now available in French! This update makes the platform accessible to millions more people across Africa.
With French being an official language in 21 African countries, such as Senegal, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Madagascar, and Cameroon can now seamlessly access and utilize Copernicus Sentinels data for better decision-making in agriculture, environmental management, and urban planning. By removing language barriers, Dunia supports sustainable development initiatives across the continent. French-speaking scientists, researchers, and policymakers can now leverage the platform to monitor natural resources, assess environmental changes, and implement effective conservation strategies with greater ease.

New Jupyter Notebooks released for Sandbox (12. Mar. 2024)
To more effectively showcase the DUNIA Sandbox's capabilities, we have released two Jupyter Notebooks specifically designed for use within the DUNIA Sandbox environment.
The first notebook allows you to explore the transformation of irrigation circles near the Biri-Manyame Dam, Zimbabwe, in the summer of 2023. You can get the notebook here!
The second notebook looks at the devastating effects of widespread flooding in Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya in November 2023, which followed a prolonged drought. Comparative images before and after the flood illustrate the scale of the disaster. You can get the notebook here!

Hackathon on Dunia, Tunis (12.-13. Dec. 2023)
The GMES Africa Hackathon in Tunis, hosted on the Dunia platform, showcased the innovative spirit of 254 participants from 34 African countries, who developed solutions to enhance resource management using Earth Observation data. The event celebrated creativity, scientific relevance, and practical impact, culminating in a victory for two deserving teams, with their work set to enrich the Dunia community as example notebooks.
